I remember reading that during the filming of Team America World Police, Trey and Matt found out that the puppeteers could actually make the movements and articulation of the puppets look pretty fluid and realistic, especially during the fight scenes. They had to specifically ask them to make it look as shitty as possible for comedic effect.
